Darwin Photographer – Mel Silva

One of my absolute favourite images of my Grandparents is this image of them on their Wedding Day (below). This photo was taken in 1956, where rigid and static posing was the norm, so having such an organic and joyous moment captured back in 1956 really consolidates my WHY. The “why I do what I do”.

My Grandparents remember what they felt like in this exact moment – you can see the joy and love between them is REAL and they are still as in love today as they were then. They still hold hands as they walk side by side in life 60 years later, and it absolutely melts my heart.

Grandpas eyes are closed, however I believe there is so much beauty in imperfection. Not every image has to be a static posed image – in fact some of my clients favourite photos are the ones they didn’t realise were being taken.

I want to photograph people – not poses. I do this through giving couples the confidence and space through meaningful actions and gestures that allow them to show who they really are in front of the camera.

Photography is my passion, my creative outlet, my career, and a way for me to make a priceless contribution to other people lives. Life is so precious, family is so precious, and all we ever have is the present moment, the now.  I feel so fortunate to document moments in time that we can never get back.
